Samsung ST76 camera review

For anyone looking for good and affordable point and shoot cameras, the Samsung ST76 could be the best pocket camera for you as, in my opinion; it’s among the top digital cameras out there – cost wise.

The ST76 digital camera pairs a 16.1 megapixel image sensor and a 5x optical zoom lens, in a brushed metal body with a 2.7-inch display and Digital Image Stabilization to top it off. With intuitive controls and a great user interface, it could be the best pocket camera out there.

Samsung st76 review

It is a beautifully styled yet powerful Samsung camera and delivers stunning images in a strikingly cool form factor.

I noticed the ST76 often leaves the flash off when needed very much, or vice-versa, and the images come out overly bright or completely dim. Sometimes you can push the button several times and nothing happens then after a few seconds the picture is taken but then it goes off by itself 2-3 times, resulting in blurred shots. Perhaps it’s the ‘Smart’ setting with a glitch.

Best pocket camera?

Not sure since it’s a matter of taste, but the ST76 is small enough to fit into any pocket, which you can take it anywhere – the club, wedding or on holiday, without sacrificing on the quality of your snaps. Weighing in at 3.57 oz (101g), the Samsung ST76 gives users functionality in a small package.

Samsung st76 features

The ST76 comes with a host of features including a 16MP CCD sensor while its 5x zoom offers 35mm-equivalent focal lengths ranging from 25 to 125mm - a large wide-angle to a moderate telephoto, and has an f/2.5 maximum aperture at wide angle.

More features include a Live Panorama function - similar to the sweep pano function on some competing good cameras. What it means is that with the Samsung ST76 you can automatically capture and stitch a panorama image just by sweeping the field of view across a scene while holding the shutter button!

The ST76’s Smart Auto 2.0 mode selects from a variety of scene modes, and identifies one that’s closest to the current conditions, then configures the camera appropriately helping keep things simple for less experienced photographers.

Since the Samsung ST76 has red-eye reduction which means users can take faces without worrying about how to get rid of the red-eye.

ST76 point of departure

Some unusual features on the Samsung ST76 include a Magic Frame function. This feature overlays your image on a background, with options including Wall Art, Full Moon, Magazine, and Holiday.

The ST76’s Picture-in-Picture mode lets you overlay one shot on another, choosing an area where the second image should be visible.

Perhaps most curious on the Samsung ST66 digital camera is a Funny Face function. This feature uses face detection to locate facial features and then warps them in real time on the live preview. With the STF76’s multi-controller, you can make your subject’s head or nose larger.

HD video

Besides the obvious still image capture function, the Samsung ST76 also records High Definition movies at 720p resolution (or 1,280 x 720 pixels) at 30 frames per second.

Wi-fi connectivity

The Samsung ST76 can connect to a computer by using USB 2.0 or through Wi-Fi – cool.

Verdict

I highly recommend this camera to anyone looking for serious quality and great price. It is easy to use and comes with a few extras.
