Gadgets for Corporate World

Corporate mobile phones are expensive. They’re also essential. The fact is that the corporate mobile phone really is becoming “an office in a box”, and the needs of business for better quality are increasing. The need for better economics and bottom line-based costing is also becoming more obvious, if that’s possible. Fortunately for business, the highly competitive phone industry is getting the message.

The business environment
The problem is that the general communications environment is anything but business-friendly in more ways than one. The corporate plans vary from well-designed, functional concepts which enhance business operations to a truly strange menagerie of complex, unnecessarily bureaucratic messes. A corporation doesn’t need something which looks like a phone book as a phone plan. You could spend a few days reading these things, and they’re truly obsolete.

It’s not all bad news. The big carriers are generally cleaning up their acts, with some notably innovative plans coming on stream, too. This is a time in history where the idea is to just hit a button and go where you want to go. That’s also the demand in business. The other demand is for value for money and clearly defined plans.

Enter the mobile phone brokers
That’s now being delivered to some extent, but it’s being delivered in a particularly businesslike way. Mobile phone brokers are literally brokers, working for businesses to find the best phone plans. They’ve created a cultural shift in the most literal sense- The phone carriers are confronted by experts, and these phone contracts are worth a lot of money. The carriers therefore start providing good, highly competitive plans.

This has been generally good for the phone industry. It’s forcing rationalization in areas where bizarre schedules of charges and phone usage terms are being replaced with working, straightforward plans. This is business, and this is the way mobile phone business is done better than any other mobiles.

The mobile phone brokers literally compare plans and they create a profile of plans for their clients. That’s raised the standard of phone plans across the board. It’s good business for their corporate clients, too, because they can save tens of thousands of dollars per bill with this very demanding approach to their communications.

The brokers are “market forces” in the most unambiguous sense. The strong dissatisfaction of many business clients with their phone plans has raised the ante for the phone carriers, and a quiet revolution is already starting to hit the front line sales zone.

The future
There’s no doubt that the communications industry is getting on the better business bandwagon as fast as it can. Corporations need to look at their phone plans on the most practical basis:

• Better deals
• Good private/business functions
• Value for money
• Well organized plans
• Good rates
• Simplified, no-nonsense, no-bureaucracy plans
• Built in business functions

Corporations can thank the mobile phone brokers for putting an end to the bureaucracy. The future of the corporate phone plans isn’t in doubt. The days of having to tolerate phone plans that simply create more work for accountants than deliver functions are over.

SoundHound Music Application for Android

SoundHound, Music Application for Android
SoundHound, Music Application for Android
SoundHound, an application for Windows Phone, iOS and Android is claimed to be the only application that can recognize again even though the lyrics are not clear. When used, this application could play a song for 13 seconds, performing songs online search and display the results. When it was discovered the song or tone you are looking for, it will display the details of the song name, singer name, or can even purchase the song through the application.
Come on, the one with the chorus that makes … How many times do you happen to have songs on the tip of your tongue? I almost always. To SoundHound, the revolutionary music recognition application for Android, is really important

Now just bring the phone started humming and SoundHound recognizes the song, or at least give her all. You even managed to identify the version I stonatissima Roma Carpaccio, the wonders of technology. But there was no miracle: if you propose songs from famous singers niche only in Treviso, ‘b, will not work. Side niches, however SoundHound works much better with songs in English, we recognized first time flying but have faltered at the Billion.

In addition to singing, you can also just bring your Android to the stereo speakers when you hear a song you like, and SoundHound will tell you the title, like Shazam, is often even better. Or you can search through the text. In any case, to begin the search for missing songs just flick the screen, and recognition programs.

After digging the song, you can watch videos on YouTube, get information about the authors and share your findings via SMS, e-mail or Facebook. If the song is available on Amazon, you can also buy. And it’s free! In short, SoundHound is very important. But we’ve said this, right?

Blackberry to support BB OS7 for another 2 years

Last quarter, of the 4.3 million phones sold by BlackBerry, 3.2 million were powered by the older BlackBerry 7 OS. That was a shock considering the lengths to which BlackBerry tried to promote its new BlackBerry 10 powered phones. BlackBerry has inked a five year deal with contract manufacturer Foxconn for the latter to design, produce and handle warehousing of low-end BlackBerry models for emerging markets. When it was rumored that the first handset to be released under this deal, the BlackBerry Jakarta, would not have a physical QWERTY and would be powered by BlackBerry 10, it seemed that BlackBerry was about to pull the plug on BlackBerry 7 OS.

But there is some good news today for those who favor the older BlackBerry 7 OS. Sunil Lalwani, the Managing Director of BlackBerry India, now says that BlackBerry 7 OS will be supported until December 2015. That means that the platform that contributed the lions share of BlackBerry sales last quarter will still be around for nearly two years.

"The inherent new features of BB10 had to be clearly articulated to end-users, which wasn’t done well, leading to issues like inventory build-up of the Z10, but after cutting the price, sales have picked up again."-Sunil Lalwani, Managing Director, BlackBerry India

BlackBerry had to take a charge on an embarrassing amount of BlackBerry Z10 units as $960 million was written off in the second quarter. A further write down of $2.7 billion for unsold BlackBerry 10 units was taken in the third quarter. Lalwani said that BlackBerry did a poor job of showing potential buyers all of the features of BlackBerry 10, which led to the inventory write-offs. He does point out that since cutting the price of the Z10, sales have perked up.

After December 2015, the Managing Director says that BlackBerry will stop selling the older BlackBerry 7 OS powered models, and will offer deals to get owners of those BlackBerry models to exchange them for a BlackBerry 10 model. So if you love that QWERTY keyboard on the BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930, you have a couple of years left to pick one up. And no, Lalwani says that there is no sequel to the BlackBerry PlayBook tablet in the works.

"It’s been a difficult one year, but you only emerge stronger and learn what is your core strength based on which customer segments are still loyal to you. It’s not that we are not profitable anymore, but have taken several write-offs resulting in a hit on our books in the last one year. This was due to several reasons.

When we launched BB 10, it was a new platform built ground up to upgrade a decade old BB platform. The inherent new features of BB10 had to be clearly articulated to end-users, which wasn’t done well, leading to issues like inventory build-up of the Z10 but after cutting the price, sales have picked up again. In the last quarter, 60% of our revenue came from services and software – they generate higher margins. This is why, this year and beyond, services and software will be predominant focus for BlackBerry, and devices will be a pull through. We believe this strategy will be key to our turnaround and profitability in 2014, and we are extremely bullish about the future of BlackBerry."

Cover Intelligent Lockscreen For Android Download Links

Few weeks back, we talked about an Android intelligent lockscreen app called Cover. The app is a smart lock screen that would display apps on your locked screen based on where you are at the moment.

For example, if you are driving, your locked screen would contain apps like Google Maps, Email app and maybe Phone app to allow you quickly get things done. However, if you are in a different place, your locked screen would contain other set of applications relative to where you are located.

Cover is able to this by noticing the app you use most frequently in certain places and adapts to it. It learns location and gives you the best lockscreen that would fit that environment.

Also, Cover doesnt drain battery at all. In fact, the creators had to work tirelessly to make sure that battery usage is kept to the minimum.

Accurate motion sensing helps Cover to determine when you are in a car driving or moving on feet. This accuracy helps it to position apps that are necessary and needed in the car.

Although at first launch, you are required to input your home and work addresses. Also, your Cover settings is associated with your Gmail ID. So even if you lose your phone and you get a new one, installing Cover reflects your previous settings.

This Cover Intelligent lock screen is now available for download at the Google Play Store for those that want a bite of  this app.

The app is still in its better stage though and the creators have said that more features would be added to the app to make it a total must-have app for any Android phone.

The ease at which one can switch between running apps and notified apps is sweet and perfect. Also changing profile status cant be any easier.

Currently, the app supports Android version 4.0.3 above and its about 19MB in size. Furthermore, its not available in every Google Play Store region yet so some may not find it in their countrys store. However, a direct link to the app on Play Store can be found below.

See your location history dashboard and more with Google Maps 5 3 for Android

Today, we’re happy to announce Google Maps 5.3 for Android, which lets you see your Google Location History dashboard, check in at “home,” and add your own aspects for places when rating them.

Location History dashboard
If you’ve enabled Location History for Google Latitude, you’ve been able to visualize interesting trends in your location history with a personal dashboard at google.com/latitude on your computer. Now, you can also see your dashboard on your phone by tapping View location history from your Latitude profile. You’ll be able to see right on your phone how far you’ve travelled as well as an estimate of how much time you’ve spent at home, at work, or out.

If you haven’t yet, you can enable Location History from your computer or from Latitude’s Settings menu on your phone. Location History is 100% opt-in and is private to you and nobody else. You can always delete any of your location history from the Manage History tab or correct the estimated work and home locations from the dashboard on your computer.

View your location history dashboard from your Latitude profile on your phone and see estimates of where you’ve spent your time.

Check in at home
Now that you can see how much time you spend at “home”, you might want to let friends know when you’re there. Checking in at places using Latitude is another way to keep a history of places you’ve been and also lets you share when you’re there. I love letting friends and family know when I’m at a cafe or park, but sometimes I want them to know that I’m relaxing at home or made it back safely from a road trip. So now, I can start checking in at “home” in Latitude:
  1. Check in from Latitude and tap “Home - Tap to set your location” at the bottom of the nearby places list if you don’t have one yet.
  2. Use the estimated current address or enter in your home address yourself.
  3. Once you’ve checked in at home once, “Home” will appear at the top of the list when you’re checking in near there.

Like Latitude and other check-ins, checking in at home is entirely opt-in. Your set “home” location is not searchable and only you can check in there. Just like any other check-in, you can choose with whom to share your home check-ins (along with your name and address info).

Add your own aspects for places
When you’re rating places on the go in Maps using Google Places with Hotpot, you could always quickly leave feedback on a specific aspect or characteristic of a place, such as the food or ambiance. Before, we’d automatically include aspects about places that were commonly mentioned in reviews. Now, you can add your own aspects for each place. So if you think a place has a beautiful view or great music, you can add it yourself and quickly share it with the world.

When rating places, you can add your own aspects like “music” for places and leave quick feedback.

To get started, update Google Maps from Android Market on devices with Android OS 1.6+ anywhere Google Maps and Latitude are already available.

Trio Charged With Running “One Stop Shop” For Blank Bogus Credit Cards Holographic Overlays

The

The operators of fakeplastic.net have been charged with selling bogus credit cards and overlays.

All that credit and debit card information that gets stolen when criminals hack places like Target and Neiman Marcus is only worth so much to an ID thief. Sure, one could use that info to place online orders, but you’re just asking to be tracked down and caught that way. The real prize comes when you take that information and create real-looking credit cards with it.

Last night, the Justice Dept. announced that it has charged three Florida men for running a website — fakeplastic.net — that the DOJ describes as a “one-stop online shop selling counterfeit credit cards and holographic overlays,” that could be used by other baddies to either fake their identities or use stolen credit and debit card numbers in retail stores.

Feds say that cards tied to this operation are responsible for at least $34.5 million in fraud.

The 39-year-old alleged ringleader from Palm Bay has been charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud, conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit goods or services, and conspiracy to commit fraud and related activity in connection with authentication features.

His two alleged conspirators — a 31-year-old also from Palm Bay, and a 30-year-old from Melbourne — have been charged with conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit goods and conspiracy to commit mail fraud, wire fraud and bank fraud.

The site was actually seized by the FBI and U.S. Postal Inspection Service back on Dec. 5, but rather than make a public spectacle of the seizure, authorities continued to allow customers to make purchases.

The DOJ says that, following the site’s seizure, authorities made more than 30 “controlled deliveries” to customers. This means that customers were sent their orders, but those illegal materials never left the control of law enforcement.

These deliveries resulted in 11 additional arrests of alleged fakeplastic customers.

The U.S. Attorney in the case described fakeplastic.net as a “made-to-measure service [that] provided the last link in the chain necessary for criminals to make money from stolen credit card numbers and identities.”

It’s believed that the site’s operator began selling counterfeit cards and related items as early as April 2011. Fakeplastic.net was launched in June 2012. Between the pre-fakeplastic sales and the sales made through the website, the DOJ claims that the three suspects sold materials for around 69,000 fake credit cards, plus another 35,000 holographic stickers used to make counterfeit cards appear more legitimate, and more than 30,000 state identification card holographic overlays.

The alleged ringleader is believed to have personally made around $1.7 million from these sales.

The fraud conspiracy charges each carry penalties of up to 30 years in prison and fines of $1 million. The charges for conspiracy to traffic in counterfeit goods or services could mean up to 10 years in prison and fines of $2 million. The charge of conspiracy to commit fraud and related activity in connection with authentication features comes with a maximum of 20 years in jail and a $250,000 fine.

Know My App Helps Consumers Watch For Apps With Heavy Data Usage

android-4-features-data-usage

Data usage can be a frustrating thing these days, especially if you have a limited amount and want to keep from acquiring huge sums of usage fees or running into unbearably slow internet load times due to throttling. The biggest problem for consumers who have issues with data usage on their mobile devices is the lack of knowledge on how much data is actually being consumed. A big contributing factor to this is simply not knowing what apps use what amount of data, being misinformed or just flat out not paying attention. A new CTIA run website titled “Know My App” aims to help consumers combat this problem, and be more aware of applications that can chew through your data.

Know My App mentions that you should pay close attention to apps that offer services like streaming media(Netflix, Hulu Plus, Pandora, Spotify, Google Play Music, etc.) and suggests that you only use these applications while on wifi or at least trying to avoid using them if no wifi connections are available. The reasoning for this is because they eat through data like it’s nothing due to constant streams of high quality content like movies or TV shows. You can monitor your usage of data via your carriers web portal after you login to your account, but using the carrier website to track your usage isn’t as effective as just keeping a close eye on which apps you use while you’re connected to your network. Although this type of a recommendation can vary depending on how long you are using data hungry apps, and you have to consider if you’re someone that even has to worry about this sort of thing at all. For example, you can stream and use your data to your hearts content if you carry a truly unlimited data plan. Not all customers are though, in fact plenty of them aren’t.

Know My App is primarily aimed at consumers who aren’t on these types of plans and have to watch their data consumption every month. The site can also be helpful for those who always seem to go over their data no matter what they do. If this sounds like you, the Know My App site might be just what the doctor ordered to help you keep your data usage under wraps. Check out all the information that Know My App has to offer if you think it could be beneficial. Even if you have a data plan that has no foreseeable limits, you can still use Know My App if you’e interested in knowing which apps use high amounts of data.
